Children Hear the Word

and Participate in the Sacraments Too!

Children's Messages

Children hear the Gospel story first during the children's message, and again during Sunday School, following the Children's message. Congregation members have shared stories, songs and favorite Scripture verses during Children's Messages. Sometimes children share their talents through song or praise dance at this time.

Acting Out the Stories

Sunday School

Children 5th grade and under are invited to join us for Sunday School following the children’s sermon each Sunday during the school year. We typically divide them into two age groups and learn the Gospel lesson through activities and discussion. Sunday school lessons follow the lectionary readings, and consequently, tie in with the children’s sermon.

Baptism

In the Lutheran tradition, we baptize infants, children, teens or adults.

First Communion

All children of God are invited to share in the bread and wine of Holy Communion at our congregation. However, coming from diverse backgrounds, children are subject to their parents' decisions about whether they wish them to receive communion before confirmation. Pastor Lee Ann and parents lead the children through instruction once children are old enough to attend kindergarten, then those who wish to, begin receiving communion weekly, as is our pattern.

Confirmation

Youth begin the 2-year confirmation class in grades 6 or 7. Our field trip-based curriculum takes us all over the metro area. One year we focus on the Bible; in the other year we are guided by Luther's Small Catechism. We combine our students with those from Salem Lutheran Church and North United Methodist for a good-sized group.
