Teaching Sermons


As many Lutheran congregations do, River of Life follows the Revised Common Lectionary for its 3-year cycle of Sunday readings. Pastor Lee Ann (or guest preachers) usually preach on one of the 3 texts or the Psalm from the lectionary.

Beginning in January of 2010, Pastor Lee Ann has taken one Sunday per month to depart from the lectionary readings, and preach a "teaching sermon" on a part of Luther’s Catechism: the major teachings of the Lutheran church. For those who never received instruction to be confirmed in the Lutheran church, and even for those who did, teaching sermons have been a way to closely examine the core teachings and beliefs we have about the sacraments, the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, the Office of the Keys and the Creeds. Each teaching sermon was accompanied by a handout and a summary in the next month’s newsletter. You can find them below:
